Breakthrough StomaphyX Device for Incisionless Surgery Now Offered in Summit, New Jersey

SUMMIT, New Jersey, April 2008 -- Natural Orifice Surgery with the pioneering StomaphyX device is now available from Dr. Ajay Goyal at New Jersey Bariatric Center.  Dr. Ajay Goyal, a leader in bariatric surgery, is the first specialist in the New Jersey area trained and performing procedures with the StomaphyX. "The StomaphyX allows a minimal downtime procedure where in the past a longer recovery would have been required," said Dr. Ajay Goyal. "The procedure is done transorally – meaning through the mouth- so there are no incisions, no visible scars and most patients can return to work as early as the next day."

StomaphyX is a break through transoral device. Widely recognized as the next step in the evolution of minimally invasive techniques, StomaphyX is introduced into the body, not through an incision, but through a natural body orifice, the mouth. The procedure is performed under visualization by an endoscope inserted down the central shaft of the StomaphyX. Once inside the stomach, a small section of the stomach wall is suctioned up into the device and fastened with a suture-like fastener creating a fold called a plication. As many as 10-20 plications may be created depending on the needs of the patient.
